Mando Diao at Omnivox Studio
Photo shoot with Mando Diao during the recording of “I Solnedgången”.

Big live room.

The studio’s greatest asset is the large recording room. With 5.5 meters high ceilings, soundwaves gets the chance to bloom properly. The room also offers great opportunities for experimenting with microphone placements.

The studio has the capacity for recording bands, choirs etc live, all together in the live room.

The live-room has wooden walls and angled and damped ceilings. Everything usually sounds great, straight off.

The recording room (and the whole building, actually) presents quite a few possibilities when it comes to experimenting with microphone placements. Ambience microphones on the stand, in the kitchen or in the upstairs hall can add a lot to your recording. A nice drum sound is more than possible.

On the technical side

Microphones
Lots of Ehrlund microphones here, including two hand-built tube mics by Göran Ehrlund himself. A pair of Ehrlund EHR, six Ehrlund ‑D and ‑E mics, Ehrlund T + mics from Beyerdynamics, Shure, Sennheiser, Rode and others.

Instruments
Premier Resonator drum set, congas, two acoustic pianos, synths, string machines, double bass, acoustic and electric guitars, electric bass and much more. Marshall‑, Bassman‑, Roland Jazz Chorus‑, Music Man- and Acoustic amplifiers, all from the 60s and 70s.

The room itself
The live-room stands on its own concrete slab with double exterior walls and ceiling to minimize sound leaking in and out. The inner walls are made of wood and wired for microphones, speakers and for re-amping purposes.

There are two amplifier/song booths with windows facing the live room that supplies good separation between the instruments for live tracking.

During recording, you control your own mix with Hearback-mixers.

Most things sound good in the big room, straight off. Vocals are most often recorded in the live-room. We encourage you to  experiment with all the possibilities when it comes to microphone placements. Ambience microphones on the stand, in the kitchen or in the upstairs hall can add a lot to your recording.
